We are all aware of the dangers a distracted driver poses on the highway, this becomes especially important when you are operating a multi-ton vehicle. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) recently issued a joint rule prohibiting interstate truck and bus drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving. A hefty fine of up to $2,750 comes with each offense. This follows a similar ban from the two organizations against texting while operating vehicles.
What does this mean for our customers? Hopefully just an added sense of peace that your belongings will arrive at your new home safe and sound. However, if you need to reach a transporter but he or she doesn’t answer, it most likely means they are behind the wheel. Leave a message explaining your call and they will call you back as soon as they aren’t operating the truck. You can also call your Hilldrup move counselor who maintains regular contact with your driver and can help with any questions.
Hilldrup always promotes safety through everything we do as a company, but now the industry is making sure everyone who gets behind the wheel of a truck follows one important rule: stay off the cell phone.
