Sometimes circumstances arise that make moving extremely challenging. Part of the ongoing service Hilldrup provides to our customers is to identify those types of events to help you avoid problems with your move. We recently received a notice about a NATO summit taking place in Chicago on May 20-21; however roadway closures will be in effect from May 18-22.

These security measures for the summit will effectively shut down almost the entire downtown area. If you were planning a move in that area around those dates, call your account representative to see if any changes need to be made.

City officials in Chicago are advising anyone needing to get around town from May 18-22 to think twice.  The Windy City will be hosting the NATO summit at the McCormick Place Convention Center on South Lake Shore Drive.

Chicago Mayor Emmanuel calls it “a security challenge that no American city has ever had to face” and the event could mean essentially a shut-down downtown area.  Police are bracing for protests, security for world leaders and their motorcades will be extremely high, and more than 10,000 visitors have booked nearby hotel rooms.  Transportation to and from Chicago’s airports will result as many as 50 rolling street closures each day.  For security reasons most road closings are not being published in advance.

All moving services including packing, loading, delivery, surveys, and commercial moving are expected to be greatly restricted for the entire city during this time.
