The drive down to Durham from Charlottesville is a relatively easy one for fans, at just over three hours. The route takes you down Route 29 for most of the drive, meaning you won’t have to worry about much traffic along the way.

The drive from Charlottesville to Durham is around 190 miles, depending on the route you decide to take. And with both the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University playing away games this weekend, traffic should be minimal.

If this is your first visit to Duke, here’s what you can expect on game day.

While I am normally with the team and helping out before the game, over the years I’ve heard of some fun restaurants and traditions to take part in close to campus.

WHAT TO DO IN Durham ON GAME DAY

  • Bull City Burger and Brewery – The thing that sets Bull City Burger and Brewery apart is that everything on the menus (including the beer) is made from scratch in house. And last year the brewery took home a best in show award and three gold medals from the NC Brewers’ Cup.
  • Devine’s Restaurant & Sports Bar – One of Durham’s long-standing institutions, Devine’s has been around since 1978. Known for its wings and live music on the patio, you can stop here before or after the game!
  • The Federal– Located in the historic Brightleaf District, The Federal is a great place to stop for dinner on your way back home. This neighborhood bar serves up local microbrews and fantastic food.
  • Elmo’s Diner – Serving breakfast all day, Elmo’s diner is a no-frills spot that you can visit either before or after the game. Elmo’s serves up traditional diner fare as well as a few more creative options for those feeling a little adventurous.
  • Monuts – If need you a couple of last-minute breakfast items to bring with you to a tailgate, the bagels, muffins and pastries from Monuts are guaranteed to be a hit with your friends and family.
  • Fullsteam Brewery – Time to celebrate a Wahoo victory? Head over to Fullsteam Brewery after the game for a round of beers and a southern inspired menu including options like a pimento grilled cheese and a Carolina dog.

See you at the game! And if you see the UVA Football Truck – share your photos with me on Twitter using #UVAFBTruck.
