Celebrating a Remarkable Career: Wishing Teresa Bean All the Best in Retirement
After more than 30 years in the moving and storage industry, Teresa is retiring from her full-time role, leaving a lasting impact on Hilldrup's Forestville team.
After more than 30 years in the moving and storage industry, Teresa Bean is beginning a well-earned retirement. Since Hilldrup’s acquisition of Suddath’s operations in the DMV in 2018, she has been instrumental in helping grow the Forestville location through her exceptional work ethic, adaptability, and attention to detail.
Teresa’s career began in 1993 with Security Storage Company of Washington as an Assistant Manager in Marlow Heights, Maryland. Over the years, she held numerous leadership and operational roles, including Branch Manager, Central Dispatch Manager, Quality Control, Training, Customer Service, Claims Support, and Accounting. Along the way, she helped guide teams through major milestones, operational challenges, and two company acquisitions.
In 2015, Security Storage became part of Suddath, and in 2018, Suddath’s DMV operations joined Hilldrup. Through every transition, Teresa remained a steady, knowledgeable, and valued team member.
Reflecting on her career, Teresa shared:
“I was able to take the wide variety of experience gained through two buyouts and remain a productive member of each company. I consider myself a ‘jack of all trades and master of none.'”
While Teresa may describe herself that way, those who worked alongside her know her as a dedicated professional whose knowledge, reliability, and willingness to help made a lasting impact on countless colleagues and customers.
To celebrate her retirement, we asked Teresa a few fun questions about her time at Hilldrup and her plans for the future. Check out her responses below!
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Showing up every day with my best effort to get the job done and not let my coworkers down.
What are some of your favorite memories from your time here?
The lifelong friendships forged from striving for excellence together.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned during your career?
That my hot Irish temper (inherited from my mother) doesn’t always help, sometimes you just have to breathe and try to relax a little. And while that’s been a longtime struggle, over the years I have had some success in trying to calm down.
If you could thank your coworkers for one thing, what would it be?
Hanging in there with me on my worst days!
What are you most looking forward to in retirement?
SLEEP……………….And when I’m done, start visiting my 11 siblings and 52+ nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews some of whom I’ve not yet met. Get back to what I love, reading, kayaking, be on the water or at least near it, yard work (well maybe?)
If your career had a theme song, what would it be?
My working life has been very, very long, so 1 song won’t work. My 3 choices: “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson, “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John and “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar
Is there a final message you’d like to share with your coworkers, friends, and the next generation of employees?
No matter how long you’ve been in business or how much experience you have, there are always opportunities to learn something new. Do as I say, not as I do…take time for yourself and recharge.
