A local move typically refers to a relocation between two addresses within 30 miles or less of each other, often within the same city or metro area. An intrastate move, by contrast, is a move that remains within the same state but covers a greater distance—usually 51 miles or more. This ensures that the cost is fair, the proper truck and crew are assigned, and that your move is scheduled and handled efficiently from start to finish.
How much does a local move cost?
The cost of your local move depends on your belongings, including how much you need to move and the fragility of your items (in case anything needs specialized packaging and handling). If you add on other services, like packing and crating, that would be an additional cost. A virtual quote will help identify the overall cost of the move.
How long does a local move take?
A local move can take one to two days, depending on the size of your move. If packing your home takes less than 150 cartons and is less than 18,000 pounds, it will take one full day. If your belongings take between 151-300 cartons and are between 18,001 and 36,000 pounds, it will take two full days. Once your move is scheduled, your move counselor can provide a specific timeframe.
