Hilldrup Gives Back at Fredericksburg’s Thurman Brisben Center

From helping people move down the street or across the world, Hilldrup employees are passionate about helping others. But our unified spirit of assisting others and giving back to our community isn’t just our day job – it’s something we love to do whenever the opportunity arises!

On Saturday, January 26, over 30 Hilldrup employees and some of their family members volunteered at the Thurman Brisben Center in Fredericksburg, VA. Their mission is: To provide at-risk and homeless men, women and children of Caroline Country, King George County, Spotsylvania County, Stafford County, and the City of Fredericksburg with appropriate and essential shelter and services to affect positive life changes.

Our day of volunteering began at 9:30am and throughout the day included:

  • Cooking and serving a meal to the center’s residents
  • Organizing the pantry
  • Organizing the freezer
  • Making intake bags for new residents
  • Making crafts with the young residents
  • Changing lightbulbs and air filters in the facility

“Everyone did such a great job making this project such a success,” described Lindsi Smith, OA/DA Services for Hilldrup and event coordinator for the event. “It was so much fun and so rewarding to give back to the residents there and to an organization that offers so much support in our local community.”

We were blown away by the outpouring of volunteers who signed-up to help at this event and appreciate everyone who made these efforts possible! Hilldrup would like to give special thanks to the local businesses who kindly donated items to our efforts with this volunteer project as well. Donations of chicken, dinner rolls and potatoes were all thanks to the generosity of:

Special thanks also goes out to Lindsi Smith for all of her hard work in organizing and leading this volunteer effort on behalf of Hilldrup. We look forward the opportunity to assist the Thurman Brisben Shelter again in the future!
