Hilldrup's Atlanta team welcomes FMCSA Administrator, Raymond Martinez at the branch.

We’re always pleased to welcome clients and industry leaders to our offices for a closer look at our operations and to meet our dedicated team. Recently, Hilldrup Orlando was thrilled to welcome Administrator Raymond Martinez, Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), to our Orlando office and warehouse. There, we provided Administrator Martinez insight into our operations, team and the Hilldrup organization as a leader in the moving and storage business.

The FMCSA’s primary goal is to improve the safety of commercial motor vehicles throughout the U.S. in reducing the number of crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses on the roadway. Administrator Martinez’s role translates to regulating more than 530,000 trucking companies, 12,000 bus and motor-coach operations and approximately 4 million interstate commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders. Nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2018, Administrator Martinez reports directly to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

Hilldrup Orlando was thrilled to welcome Administrator Martinez for an in-depth look at our local operations and a tour of our facility while providing information on the transportation industry and more specifically, what differentiates household goods moving companies from typical freight carriers. We were also happy to welcome Scott Michael, President and CEO of the American Moving & Storage Association; James Wiley Deck, Director of Government Affairs for the FMCSA; and Selika Gore, Advisor to the Administrator, to Orlando and host them as part of Administrator Martinez’s visit as well!

As this was the first time Administrator Martinez had visited a moving and storage company, it was important for our team to explain the differences and challenges that household good carriers, like Hilldrup, experience as compared to freight carriers. As part of that discussion, other topics included Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, simplifying the paperwork required for moving, CDL age requirements and what the future may look like with the growing presence of autonomous vehicles.

It was our honor to host Administrator Martinez, Wiley, Selika and Scott at Hilldrup Orlando. We hope you all enjoyed your visit with us and learned a lot about the moving and storage industry and about our organization. Hilldrup looks forward to being a resource to the FMCSA in working towards a safer and stronger transportation industry for all!

In addition to local moving services, our Orlando facility has 60,000 square feet of climate-controlled storage space that includes automotive storage. We were excited to provide a first-hand look at these spaces to our visitors and appreciate them all for taking the time to visit Hilldrup Orlando to learn more about the moving and storage business!
