My name is Kurt Smith, and I am a Local Planner at Hilldrup. It was during my 15+ years working with the Department of State in their logistics division that I first got to know the Hilldrup team. When my husband and I decided we were ready for a change, we relocated to Florida, and I was lucky enough to link up with my old Hilldrup contacts who took me under their wing. I have now been with Hilldrup for one and a half years and cannot imagine being anywhere else.

While my previous experience was primarily on the government side with contract negotiations and policy requirements for shipping internationally, the team here quickly showed me the ropes to bring me up to speed on the different types of equipment and vehicles used for domestic moving as well as some of the nuances of household goods moving.

In my role as Local Planner, I am responsible for organizing the branch’s daily schedule – from gathering the necessary paperwork to researching the job sites so my team understands the job expectations and I ensure there are no issues standing in their way. With constant communication and our checks and balances in place, I pride myself on helping run a well-oiled machine. Things may not always go as planned, but we always figure out solutions and get the job done because our hearts are in it, and we are there for each other and our customers.

I continue to be amazed by the “team first” atmosphere at Hilldrup. It’s part of the reason I was drawn to this job. I could sense how much the people at Hilldrup care about each other and their customers. It is all about coming together and accomplishing a job to the best of our ability. Every day, I try to take on new challenges and tasks. From learning about equipment maintenance, to getting more involved in background checks on crew and labor, I enjoy the opportunity to grow and do even more to help our customers keep moving.
