Lisa Patterson Keeps You Moving

Hilldrup really is like a family, and that feeling extends to our customers. Maybe that’s why we’re so passionate about what we do – getting individuals and families safely to their destinations.

My name is Lisa Patterson, and I am a Department of Transportation (DOT) Compliance Coordinator. I’ve been in the trucking and transportation industry for years, starting as a driver before moving into dispatching. When the time came to make a change, I found a home at Hilldrup.

My role here is very much behind the scenes, but I believe it’s critical to the health and safety of our drivers – which translates to successful moves for our customers. Drivers all have Hours of Service regulations they have to follow and can only be on the road for so many hours a day. I keep an eye on their logs and let drivers know when they’re getting close to that limit. I often have to work with Operations Managers and other departments to proactively come up with a plan to ensure the driver has the time to rest while also ensuring the move stays on schedule. Communication and coordination is key.

Our trucks also have some incredible technology inside. We have cameras connected to software that is programmed to look out for warning signs, like if a driver is getting sleepy behind the wheel, and they will trigger alerts if something is off. I still remember an alert like this I received, and when I looked, I could tell the driver needed a break and reached out to his manager to intervene immediately. To know that I could have saved a person’s life is reward itself.

Hilldrup really is like a family, and that feeling extends to our customers. Maybe that’s why we’re so passionate about what we do – getting individuals and families safely to their destinations. No matter the challenges that come our way, together, we keep moving.
