Supporting Operation Healing Forces’ “Let’s Talk Basketball” Benefit Dinner and Forum

Hilldrup was honored to support a benefit dinner and forum by Operation Healing Forces and their inspiring mission.

We have our nation’s service members to thank for the many freedoms we enjoy today. Operation Healing Forces (OHF)’s mission is to recognize and celebrate these service members. OHF is a nonprofit dedicated to America’s Special Operations Forces, both active-duty service members and veterans, with no-cost support and financial grants to aid themselves and their families in times of crisis and hardship. On October 18, 2023, Operation Healing Forces hosted a fundraising event inspired by the theme, Let’s Talk Basketball! Hilldrup was honored to be a sponsor of this special evening.

The event, hosted by OHF Founder & Chairman, Gary Markel and OHF Founder & Vice Chair, Tony Markel took place at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. The evening brought together the most recognized names and faces in college basketball across Virginia, including Tony Bennett of the University of Virginia, Mike Young of Virginia Tech, Ryan Odom of Virginia Commonwealth University and Chris Mooney of the University of Richmond. In addition, the emcee for the evening was ESPN basketball analyst and well-known commentator for all things college basketball, Jay Bilas.

Hilldrup was represented by Charles W. McDaniel, President and CEO; Charlie S. McDaniel, Sr. Director, Logistics Services; Thomas Leachman, Residential Sales Consultant; and Gray Hart, Director, Workplace Solutions and Logistics.

A number of friends and clients joined us at the event, including Scott Ruth of Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville Real Estate; Spy-Rock’s Justin Olderman; Taylor Williams and Andrew Basham; Harrison McVey of Colliers and Bill Tyson of Fifth Third Investment Banking.

During the event, Operation Healing Forces presented the Tip of the Spear Award, which was given to Glenn Youngkin, Governor of Virginia, “in recognition of his significant and lasting contributions that enhance the wellbeing of America’s Special Operations Forces community.” Congratulations to our very own Governor Youngkin on this outstanding accolade!

Together we enjoyed a cocktail reception and dinner and had the opportunity to engage in conversation during a Q&A session with the renowned coaches. We enjoyed listening to their perspectives on college basketball today, the current challenges and opportunities in college sports and their prospects for the upcoming season.

It was an honor to be a part of and support this event with all proceeds benefitting the vital work that Operation Healing Forces is carrying out for Special Operations heroes and their families across the U.S.
