On April 12, 2018, the Rappahannock United Way (RUW) hosted a luncheon to celebrate the extraordinary fundraising campaigns of 2017 thanks to businesses and organizations in the Fredericksburgarea. And to Amanda Strawn’s surprise, there was a personal well-deserved recognition given for all that she does to motivate the Hilldrup team to continue making a difference!

The luncheon was hosted at the Jepson Alumni Executive Center at the University of Mary Washington through sponsorships. The celebratory luncheon was attended by a handful of Hilldrup employees including, Beth Williams, Vice President of Human Resources; Amanda Strawn, Relocation Specialist; Linda Rivera, Vice President of Quality and Customer Relations; and Shelly Snyder, Executive Assistant to Hilldrup President and CEO Charles W. McDaniel.

“I had no idea!” confessed Amanda, on winning the 2017 Campaign Coordinator of the Year Award in our company size category.  She explained that she’s been participating with RUW campaigns since she first began with Hilldrup, originally as a Summer Helper in 2008.

“The money and resources that we collect are being funneled back to the people in your community – so you always know where your donations are going,” said Amanda on why partnering with RUW is so important. “You may not even realize that your neighbors or even people you work with could be relying on and benefiting from the work that RUW does.”

During the event, Rappahannock United Way President, Janel Donohue, said the workplace campaign was key in the 2017 fundraising efforts. She explained donations from employees of participating local businesses and organizations contributed $1.7 million of the $2.29 million raised from the Fredericksburg area.
